MBU believes in seeing the world with a Christian worldview. We do not want to just talk about serving others; we need to be servants to those who need to be served. In fact our #5 Core Value is – “We believe in social change through service and leadership”. Jesus has called his followers to be servant leaders in this world, acting on our beliefs. Let’s take hold of this calling and be a positive change in society!
I will never be able to forget or erase the vivid images that are imprinted on my mind from the week I spent in Haiti. When I signed up for the 2010 Missouri Baptist University mission trip to this impoverished nation, I could not have prepared for the impact that it would leave, or effect it would have, on the team of students and leaders that went. Shortly after I had signed up, the massive and catastrophic 7.0 earthquake struck the already destitute island, destroying homes, families, and lives. The quake, and cries of the Haitian people, were heard around the world and billions of dollars and aid was sent from countries around the globe. This letter is not about the impact that the world made on the country of Haiti, but about the impact that the country of Haiti made on me, and 15 other students and staff from Missouri Baptist University.
