MBU announces 50th commencement speaker
SAINT LOUIS (April 21, 2022)–Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, president emeritus at Samford University, will serve as Missouri Baptist University’s 50th Commencement speaker.
Westmoreland served as the president of Samford University from 2006 until his retirement in 2021. His career in higher education spans more than 40 years, including 23 years of service in two college presidencies–Samford University and Ouachita Baptist University.
Under Westmoreland’s leadership, Samford was regularly recognized as one of the top Christian universities in the United States, receiving high marks for academic quality and value. During his tenure at Samford, total enrollment grew more than 23 percent across undergraduate, graduate and online programs: from 4,478 in the fall of 2006 to an estimated 5,700 in the fall of 2020.
Westmoreland holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in political science and a doctorate in higher education administration. He is an Arkansas native and is married to Dr. Jeanna Westmoreland. They have one daughter, Riley, who earned degrees at Samford and Vanderbilt University.
MBU’s 50th Commencement is May 3 at 7 p.m. May 3 at the St. Charles Family Arena.
