Dean, College of Arts and Humanities – Director of Choral Activities – Assistant Professor of Music
Dr. Jordan Cox is the Dean for the College of Arts and Humanities at Missouri Baptist University which include the Schools of Performing Arts, Humanities and Theology, and Communications. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities and Music Education. Dr. Cox earned a PhD in Music Education from the University of Missouri, a Master of Arts in Religion (Worship Studies) from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Music Education with vocal certification from Missouri Baptist University.
Beginning his career as a middle and high school music teacher and choral director in the Jackson R2 School District and at Cape Central High School in southeast Missouri, his students received numerous awards and his ensembles received top ratings at contests and competitions. Dr. Cox has also served as a worship pastor bi-vocationally at several churches in southeast Missouri and St. Louis and has led worship for countless retreats, revivals, services, and special events, and opened for notable religious leaders and contemporary Christian artists. In 2020, he planted College Park Church where he serves as Lead Pastor.
Dr. Cox has won several awards and earned Level 3 certification through the Choral Music Experience and was recently selected as a Choral Fellow at the University of North Texas Choral Symposium. He is active in numerous professional organizations including the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education, along with their state chapters. Dr. Cox is currently serving as the Worship Repertoire and Resource Chair for MCDA.
While at MBU, his choirs have travelled extensively. Notable performances include New York City (Carnegie Hall), Ireland, and Nashville, TN where MBU Chamber Singers served as a demonstration choir for Dan Forrest’s breakout session at the Getty’s SING! Conference. Under Dr. Cox’s baton, his choirs have performed masterworks of Rutter, Haydn, Handel, Britten, Bernstein, Basler, Ray, Forrest, Fauré, and Vivaldi. The choirs have also enjoyed collaborations with the St. Louis arts community including Alton Symphony Orchestra, Crescendo Youth Choirs, and The St. Louis Bach Society, including collaborations performing Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion. In 2020, the choirs produced their first worship album, Let it Shine Bright!, leading to the creation of MBU’s first choral endowment. In 2022, MBU Chamber Singers joined forces with the MBU Theatre and Dance department to present All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914.
Dr. Cox is an active clinician and presenter having conducted numerous honor choirs and festivals. Dr. Cox often presents on his research interests which include score study, rehearsal planning, and spirituality in the choral process. In 2024 Dr. Cox will be conducting Georgia’s All-State Elementary Honor Choir and will be presenting his session, Rehearsal By Design at the Southwest American Choral Directors Association conference in Denver, CO.
Dr. Cox loves living this adventurous life with his wife, Professor Kasey Cox who serves as Assistant Professor of Theatre and Director of Theatre and Dance at MBU, and their four incredibly beautiful, talented, and spirited children, Noah, Jobi, Katy, and Lawson.
