David Akers is a retired NFL kicker who has embodied lessons of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. The hard work and perseverance paid off in spite of Akers being cut three times before defining his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Akers spent twelve seasons with the Eagles—four times the length of an average NFL career—and played in more games in an Eagles’ uniform than any other player. In 2012, he tied the former record for the longers field goal in NFL history—63 yards. Akers and his family live in the greater Nashville, Tennessee area.
