The School of Performing Arts at Missouri Baptist University is seeking qualified applicants for an Adjunct Instructor of Applied Voice at their main campus. The successful candidate will teach 5-10 students per semester. Most lessons will be 45 minutes per week, though some students may have 30-minute or 60-minute lessons depending on the requirements of their degree.

Students are assigned to an applied voice studio and could represent a variety of majors (BA in Music, Music Education, Musical Theatre, Worship Leadership, Music w/ Business Electives…). Students and teacher agree upon a specific weekly lesson time that is maintained for the course of the semester with a jury held during finals week. Adjunct voice instructors report to Dr. Jordan Cox, Associate Dean, but collaborate closely with faculty, particularly following the lesson guidelines set forth by Dr. Jason Mallory, Director of Vocal Studies.

An accompanist is provided for 10 of the 15 lessons and the faculty is expected to offer 6 hours of Studio time (masterclasses with entire studio) on available Wednesdays at 3:00-3:55. Students will be required to perform in Recital Hour, which are held on Fridays at 3:00-3:55. Student recitals tend to be the last 4 available Fridays of the semester.

A master’s degree in vocal performance or pedagogy is required, though a master’s in music or music education may be considered with extensive private voice studio experience. Extensive expertise in musical theatre performance and literature is preferred.

To apply and be considered for this opportunity, all the following information MUST be included:

  1. Cover letter summarizing your qualifications and interest in the position
  2. Professional resume
  3. List of reference (at least three) listed with contact information

Submit all the required materials to Dr. Jordan Cox (Jordan.Cox@mobap.edu), Dean for the College of Arts and Humanities.
