TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT MATH COURSE TO BEGIN WITH
For students with one of the following:
ACT 20-26; MATH ACT 20-26
OR ACCUPLACER MATH TESTSCORES between 245 – 300
OR High school plane geometry and Two-years of High School Algebra (with a grade C or higher)
OR MATH 113 (with a grade of C or better)
START WITH MATH 155 Pre-Calculus
———————————————————————————————————————————————
For students with MATH ACT 27 or higher
OR ACCUPLACER MATH TEST SCORE BETWEEN 275-300
OR MATH 155 OR MATH 133 + MATH 143 (with a grade of C or better)
START WITH CALC I
Notes:
MATH 273 and ITBU 203 can each be taken any spring, but it is best to get through them in the first two years if schedules permit.
MATH 313 Elementary Number Theory is offered odd spring only, and MATH 423 is odd fall only. It is recommended to take them in that order if both are taken.
PHYS 213/223 sequence only requires MATH 164 Calculus I as a prerequisite, but it is recommended that students progress as far in the calculus sequence (MATH 164, 254, 264) as possible before PHYS 213/223.
For Secondary Education in Mathematics, students must take the electives MATH 323 Foundations of Geometry and MATH 423 Algebraic Structures during FA3 and FA4. Each of these has MATH 213 as a prerequisite but is offered only once every 2 years.
**NOTE: special consideration can be given on a case-by-case basis if a student’s overall ACT is higher/lower than their math or science sections individually. Please consult with faculty in Natural Sciences before enrolling such students.
