Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex

The 47,000 square-foot Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex includes a 1,000-seat gymnasium, a suspended indoor track, locker rooms, a concession area in Spartan Hall, a fully-equipped fitness center, classrooms, offices for faculty and coaching staff, and facilities for the Health and Sports Sciences division.

Amenities and Features

Lounge

This large gathering space has plenty of comfortable seating for students to get together for study groups or to watch the game on the large flat-screen television.

Indoor Track

The floating indoor track allows recreational walkers and runners a bird’s-eye view of the gymnasium.

Group Fitness Room

The large group fitness room has a state-of-the-art a surround sound system, mirrored walls and a magnificent view of the eastern side of campus. Students, faculty and staff can participate in a variety of group fitness classes in this modern facility.

Spartan Hall

This spacious foyer welcomes guests with large windows that let in ample natural light and the university seal inlaid in the polished floor.

J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation Courtyard

A grand archway leads guests to the beautiful outdoor courtyard adjacent to the Student Recreation Center.

R. Alton Lacey Gymnasium

The state-of-the-art gymnasium is home to the MBU Spartans NAIA Division I basketball, volleyball and wrestling teams. With 1,000 seats, a digital control system, premium flooring and electric bleachers, the modern athletic facility is up-to-date with the rest of campus.

Fitness Center

The spacious fitness center has free weights, weight machines and cardiovascular equipment to aid flexibility, develop strength, tone muscles and improve overall health. The treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals boast 17″-19″ touch-screen displays outfitted with cable TV, Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix, direct integration with numerous fitness tracking apps, and a USB port to charge almost any device.

MBU Fitness

The Missouri Baptist University fitness program strives to support a culture of wellness at MBU by providing opportunities for the social, mental, and physical development of students and employees through fitness, wellness, and recreational activity.

Faculty, staff, and current students have convenient access to state-of-the-art equipment in the fitness center and a wide variety of group fitness classes offered at no cost. MBU Fitness inspires the university community towards enhanced wellness.

Follow these easy steps to sign the electronic recreational activity waiver prior to your first visit to ensure a smooth transition and quick access!

  1. Log in to MyMBU with the credentials that match your MBU ID
  2. Choose Self-Service
  3. Scroll to ‘Other’ under the General tab
  4. Click ‘Recreational Activity Waiver’

Fitness Center Membership

Current Faculty, Staff and Students

Current MBU faculty, staff and students have free membership to the Sports and Recreation Complex Fitness Center. Incoming freshman and transfer student membership begins on the first day of enrolled classes, regardless of when the MBU ID is issued.

Spartan Family and Alumni Memberships

Alumni of Missouri Baptist University and immediate family member(s) of a current full-time MBU employee who are over the age of 18 may purchase a membership to utilize the Sports and Recreation Complex fitness facilities. After completing the online application, payment in the form of cash or check (made out to Missouri Baptist University) is due on the first visit to the Sports and Recreation Complex Fitness Center. Photo identification and completion of a recreational activity waiver of liability is required to verify your membership application. Members choose the start date upon application.

Please be aware that the hours of operation are determined by the academic schedule and primarily operated by students. The fitness center operates on a reduced schedule and/or closes during extended holiday breaks, scheduled Chapel services, some major university events, and summer (late April through mid-August).

Guest Program

Full-time MBU employees receive 2 guest passes per semester and are encouraged to use them during non-peak times of the year (surrounding holiday breaks and summer). Employees must accompany guest and guest must be over the age of 18, no exception.  Please contact the Director of MBU Fitness for more information.

MBU Group Fitness

Mix up your fitness routine and meet like-minded people in the group fitness setting. Classes are free for students, faculty, staff. Classes are held in the Group Fitness Room (SRC 304) located on the upper level of the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.

A variety of classes are offered weekly in both the fall and spring semester, taught by certified and experienced group fitness instructors who focus on creating a welcoming environment where participants thrive at every level of fitness.

Equipment is provided for classes. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes.

Schedules are available at the SRC Fitness Center desk on the lower level. Also watch for the MBU Fitness E-blast in your campus email for schedule changes, pop up classes, and special event announcements!

MBU Fitness Rules and Guidelines

Access

  • There is no fee for current MBU students or employees with a valid MBU ID.
  • All patrons must present a valid MBU ID care upon entry for access.
    • ID Forgiveness: Students are allowed three entries without ID per semester by giving attendant student number.
  • Entry to and exit from the fitness center must be through the controlled access point at the fitness center desk. Other exits should be used for emergencies only.
  • Patrons under age 18, HSOC/dual-enrolled students, and non-MBU guests are not permitted to use the Fitness Center.
  • The safety of all participants who use the facility is our highest priority.  When using the fitness center, please consider your own health history, seek counsel from your health provider, and use sound judgment when choosing exercises options and intensity.  Individuals utilize all recreational fitness facilities at their own risk.

Area-Specific Guidelines

  • Proper workout attire and footwear must be worn at all times.
  • No food or drink is allowed except for plastic water bottles.
  • Clear pathways are to be maintained at all times- this includes bags & water bottles.
  • MBU Fitness is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • The Fitness Center men’s and women’s locker room offer showers and lockers available to rent or use by the day. Locks can be checked out from the Fitness Center desk with MBU ID for day use only. Locker rentals are available for a small fee.
  • Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated.  Unsportsmanlike behavior, profanity, and equipment misuse will be reported to the Fitness Manager and may result in facility privileges being suspended or revoked.
  • Be respectful and mindful of your surroundings so that everyone may enjoy the MBU fitness facilities.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines in accordance with DPH’s Safer at Home Order:

  • All Patrons must screen prior to entering the facility by answering the following two questions and recording a temperature below 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Do you have any of the following symptoms today?
      • Fever, new or worsened cough, trouble breathing, new or worsening body aches, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell
    • Have you had close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
    • YES to any of the above MAY NOT ENTER
    • NO to ALL of the above may proceed to check-in
  • Capacity limitations are reduced to 25% (7 participants) and face coverings must be worn at ALL times for ALL equipment while in the facility
  • Participants should maintain 6-8 feet from each other
    • WARNING: Droplets exhaled during exercise can travel up to 12 feet. Take care to avoid possible exposure
  • Participants cannot share equipment
  • When done with equipment, participants must use the disinfectant wipes available around the facility
  • Throughout each shift and at the close of every business day, the fitness staff with disinfect all equipment thoroughly
  • Only current MBU students, faculty, or staff may use the facility. No guests or membership passes are allowed at this time.
