Why should I study abroad?
Studying abroad provides students with the opportunity to experience different cultures, enhance language skills, build global networks, and gain a competitive edge in the job market. It also fosters personal growth, independence, and adaptability. Experiencing more of the world can provide you with a more global perspective of the world you live in, which can grow your awe and wonder of what the Lord has made!
How do I choose the right study abroad program?
It’s helpful to consider factors like your academic goals, desired location, language, budget, program duration, and whether the credits will transfer back to Missouri Baptist University. Researching program reviews and speaking with past participants can also help in making an informed decision. If you’d like to learn more about the programs offered here at MBU, reach out to the Coordinator of Study Abroad and Global Missions at Emilee.Messer@mobap.edu.
Can I receive financial aid or scholarships for studying abroad?
Yes, MBU has an endowment specifically for students who study abroad. Depending on the program you choose, some organizations and government programs also provide funding. It’s important to research and apply for these opportunities early and to communicate with MBU’s Financial Aid team and Coordinator for Study Abroad and Global Missions.
How will studying abroad affect my graduation timeline?
If planned well, studying abroad shouldn’t delay your graduation. Many programs offer courses that fulfill degree requirements. Early planning with your academic advisor can help ensure you stay on track. You can also look at study abroad opportunities that take place over the summer if your schedule doesn’t allow for a full semester program.
